The daughter of kung fu legend Bruce Lee has sued a popular restaurant chain in China because she believes that she is illegally advertising the image of her father. Shannon Lee is demanding 210 million yuan in damages. A Shanghai court has accepted the case. The fast food chain Zhen Gong Fu, which translates as much as “real kung fu”, was “amazed” in a message today.

China’s trademark office approved several trademarks in 2004 after rigorous review. „We have been using it for 15 years,“ said Zhen Gong Fu, who runs 600 restaurants in China. The copyrights were questioned years ago. But no violation could be found. The chain advertises a picture of a black-haired man in a yellow sweater in a kung fu pose, who looks like Lee. The South American Hollywood star was an icon of martial arts and died in 1973 at the age of 32.
