British Prime Minister Theresa May’s party has dropped to record lows amidst the turmoil surrounding Britain’s exit from the EU. The Conservative Tories would only get 19 percent of the vote in a poll, according to a poll published yesterday for The Times.
They would be only the third strongest force in Britain, the worst result since the founding of the party some 200 years ago. The opposition Labor Party of Jeremy Corbyn also came to only 19 percent of the vote, the lowest since 1918.
First place for Liberals, Farange party in second place
Clear winners of the election would be the parties expressing themselves for or against a Brexit: The Liberals, who call for a new referendum on a withdrawal from the EU, received the most votes in the poll with 24 percent. In second place with 22 percent would be the Brexit party of Nigel Farage, which was founded just a few months ago and for a clear break with the European Union.
May had announced her resignation last week. She had failed to bring her EU-negotiated Brexit Treaty through Parliament.
