The British industry association CBI has urgently warned against a „hard“ Brexit. Such an exit from the EU without an agreement is simply „not feasible,“ said CBI boss Carolyn Fairbairn today in front of entrepreneurs in Bristol.
The costs and tariffs for the companies would increase, the ports would no longer function, separating the companies from the goods they needed to supply their customers. Trade agreements with countries such as Japan, South Korea and Turkey would be „lost“.
„Obsession with Brexit“
The British parliament votes on Tuesday on the withdrawal agreement. A rejection is considered likely. This threatens the end of March, an unregulated EU exit with serious consequences for the economy. These consequences would be „deep, far-reaching and sustainable,“ Fairbairn warned.
If the parliament can not agree on the agreement, then „the government must immediately say what it will do to prevent a no-deal Brexit – and guarantee that,“ said the head of the industry association. Should the government do that, „then we have a chance to finally leave this obsession with Brexit behind us.“
Clear for immigration
Fairbairn was in favor of immigrating more workers. „Any rush to reduce their numbers would hurt not just the economy, but our country.“ Explain to each individual „how overseas workers bring skills, innovation and entrepreneurship“.
