British Brexit Minister warns of second referendum

A few days before the British House of Commons vote on the EU exit agreement, Brexit PM Stephen Barclay warned of the risks of a second referendum.

„A second referendum would trigger even more disagreement. The current rate at which Britain is torn would be small compared to the tensions that would cause a second vote. It would continue to split our nation, „Barclay said in a conversation with The World and other European newspapers (Friday edition), according to the preliminary report.

Not feasible in time

A second referendum is also not feasible before the European elections in late May. „A referendum can not take place before the elections to the European Parliament. But then, in the UK, European elections would have to take place. What a huge democratic damage means, because the citizens have voted for the resignation, but now at the end of May still vote again, „said Barclay.

The vote on the Brexit deal is scheduled in the third week of January. Currently, there is no majority in the lower house, which is why the government is intensifying its preparations for an unregulated exit without an agreement.
Britain wants to strengthen border with police

In the event of a Brexit without agreement, Britain plans to strengthen the border from Northern Ireland to EU member Ireland with nearly 1,000 police officers, according to a report. The Guardian reported that the option of reinforcement was considered necessary to cover the possibility of civil disorder.

This could arise from the unrest over the border regulations after a hard Brexit. Training was necessary because the equipment and tactics used in Northern Ireland differed from those in the rest of the Kingdom.
