Natalya Eryomina, Doctor of Political Sciences, Associate Professor of European Studies at the Faculty of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University, commented in a conversation with RT that British deputies supported the amendment that calls on the government to exclude the option of leaving the country from the European Union without an agreeme
“This is a very important amendment, because, of course, hard brexit – when the UK goes out without an agreement at all, this is a blow not only to the United Kingdom – this is a blow to the interests of the EU. Based on the fact that the Parliament accepts such an amendment, Teresa May will be easier to negotiate with the European Union. This is a sign that you need to sit down and talk through some difficult moments with Brussels, which previously showed obstinacy in many subjects, ”noted Eremina.
According to the expert, this decision is also important from the point of view of May, whose statement that Britain can go without an agreement caused an internal crisis.
„For conservatives, this (adoption of the amendment. – RT ) is beneficial, because in this way they remove the problems of inner-party discussion, and the Laborites thus say that we are the main supporters of an agreement, we have defended this idea, and we it was promoted in parliament, ”concluded Yeremina.
Earlier, British deputies supported the amendment, which calls on the government to exclude the option of leaving the country from the European Union without an agreement.
