The Brexit party emerged as the clear winner in the European elections in the United Kingdom. After counting around 90 percent of electoral districts, the EU-critical party of Nigel Farage received 31.6 percent of the vote. The second strongest force was the pro-European Liberal Democrats. They came to 20.3 percent.

The Conservatives of outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May were severely punished as expected. They finished with just over nine percent of the vote in fifth place. Labor also performed significantly worse than in 2014 in third place with about 14 percent of the vote.

The result of the Greens was very strong with just over twelve percent. The results from Scotland and Northern Ireland were expected in the course of the Monday.
