Brexit: EU also plans for „worst scenario“

The EU is well prepared for the case of an unregulated Brexit. „We are ready,“ said a European Commission spokesman today in Brussels. „We plan for all imaginable scenarios including the worst.“

Five weeks before the planned British exit from the EU on 29 March, there is still no majority in London for the Brussels-agreed Brexit Treaty. Both sides therefore plan in the event that he no longer comes about. In that case, the negotiated transitional period, in which almost nothing changes for almost two years in everyday life, would be eliminated.

Critic: „Hard Brexit“ well cushioned for GB

To this end, the Commission has proposed 19 legislative proposals, inter alia, to pave the way for British Britons to stay in the EU and to maintain air, rail and road transport. Seven of these projects have already been decided. The others are still being negotiated.

Critics complain that the „no-deal“ has since cushioned so well that in Britain, the tendency to ratify the contract could disappear. The Commission spokesman did not allow that. It was the duty of all 27 remaining EU states, citizens and businesses to prepare for the worst scenario.

Juncker dampens expectations

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker also put a heavy strain on expectations ahead of new Brexit talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

They will talk to each other in a friendly way, but he does not think „that we will come to an end,“ said Juncker. May hopes for concessions from the European Union to ratify the Brexit Treaty, which is controversial in London, and to carry out the announced EU exit without chaos.
