Henrique Soares da Costa, bishop of the northeastern Brazilian diocese of Palmares, died on Saturday of Covid-19. The Brazilian media reported this weekend, according to Kathpress. On July 4, the 57-year-old was admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Recife, and on Thursday he had to be connected to a ventilator.

Costa took over the Episcopate of Palmares in 2014. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Costa as auxiliary bishop of Aracaju in 2009. Under Pope Francis, he took over the leadership of the Diocese of Palmares in 2014. Costa celebrated its last fair in early July.
