Brazil has seen new highs in coronavirus infections every day, as well as deaths associated with Covid-19 lung disease. The Ministry of Health in Brasilia reported 69,074 new infections within 24 hours last night (local time). In total, 2,552,265 cases have been registered in the largest and most populous country in Latin America.
The 1,595 deaths newly reported yesterday are also a new sad record. However, the state of Sao Paulo previously – according to a report by the newspaper „Folha de Sao Paulo“ for technical reasons – withheld its Tuesday data, which somewhat distorts the daily count. With the newly registered deaths, Brazil broke the 90,000 CoV death mark. Only in the United States have more pandemic infections and deaths been reported.
The actual numbers in Brazil are likely to be much higher, also because the country tests very little. Scientific
Studies suggest that at least seven times as many people have become infected and twice as many have died as recorded. Brazil has 210 million inhabitants.
Entry ban for foreigners relaxed
Despite the high number of infections, the country reopened numerous airports to foreigners for the first 30 days. A corresponding regulation was made yesterday evening (local time) in
Official Journal „Diario Oficial“ published. According to this, tourists have to have one before a stay of up to 90 days
Proof of health insurance that is valid in Brazil and covers the period of the trip.
Entry from the air is still prohibited without reasons for the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraiba,
Rondonia, Rio Grande do Sul and Tocantins, as well as by land and sea.
