The president’s wife spoke at a teenage drug abuse event in the city of Maryland. The crowd, which consisted mainly of students, clearly showed their displeasure when Trump stepped onto the stage and in a short speech campaigned for a „healthy and drug-free life“.
Normally First Ladies in the US are exempted from the sometimes violent political conflicts. So far, this has also applied to Melania Trump.
The fact that she was booed this time is probably due to her husband’s comments: The US president had insulted Baltimore in July. He called the majority inhabited by black people, among other things, as „disgusting, infested by rats and rodents shit hole“, after which not only political opponents accused him of racism.
