The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has admitted to the US Air Traffic Control Authority (FAA) that it may have installed faulty parts in part of its fleet. The FAA said yesterday. This concerns the Boeing 737 Max aircraft – whose aircraft are currently banned after two serious crashes – and Boeing 737 NG jets.
The FAA instructed to replace the parts in question within ten days. A crash could not lead to a failure of the parts.
With NG (Next Generation) the series Boeing 737-700, -800 and -900 are meant. In total, 179 machines of the type 737 Max and 133 of the type 737 NG are potentially affected worldwide. The problem can occur in as many as 148 components, the FAA notes.
To reduce the speed
The parts which may have been faulty manufactured are movable pilot-controlled parts on the wings, the „leading edge slats“. They are used when landing, for example, to reduce speed.
The Boeing 737 was previously considered one of the best-selling and most reliable aircraft in the world. In October of last year, a plane of the company Lion Air crashed with 157 people on board. In March of this year, an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed with 189 people. All inmates died.
