The fire in a commercial building on the Nieuw-Matthenesserstraat in Schiedam is under control. The fire brigade is currently working on post-looping. On Wednesday in daylight it must be clear how large the damage is.
The big fire broke out in a furniture store around 11 pm on Tuesday evening, after which the fire spread to other companies in the block.
At the moment the fire broke out, there were no people left in the building. The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from crossing to other buildings on the industrial estate. Many old buildings are close together in this area.
In an area north-west of the fire, soot particles and fire residues have ended up. Further research and testing in the lab has shown that these do not pose a health hazard.
At least two kilometers from the fire, the soot particles have been found, but according to the fire brigade these can easily be rinsed away with water.
