Due to a hacker attack, Malta’s second largest bank has temporarily ceased its operations. ATMs, ATMs, online banking and other services of the Bank of Valletta were temporarily unavailable yesterday.
In a statement, the bank assured its customers that their accounts were not at risk and that the services would be available as soon as possible. The bank is working closely with the police to locate the perpetrators of the attack.
„Precautionary“ services discontinued
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told parliament that hackers wanted to steal 13 million euros from the bank. The cyber thieves tried to transfer the money to accounts in the United Kingdom, the United States, the Czech Republic and Hong Kong.
After the cyber attack on the Bank of Valletta, the APS Bank also claims to have discontinued some services as a precautionary measure. Affected are ATMs, card-related transactions and payments to and from the Bank of Valletta. The institution assured its clients that the accounts were safe and the deposits safe.
