A third attack was directed against the nearby town of Mingecevir. Initially, nothing was known about possible victims in these two attacks. Just hours earlier, Azerbaijani armed forces had shelled the Armenian city of Stepanakert.
Battles despite the ceasefire
Despite the agreement on a ceasefire last week, fierce fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the southern Caucasus region of Nagorno-Karabakh continues. The conflict, which had been going on for decades, flared up again at the end of September after a period of relative calm. Hundreds of people have been killed, including dozens of civilians, since the fighting began.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense said it had made further gains on the front. According to the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, his military has also brought several villages and a city in the conflict area under their own control. In turn, Armenia reported rocket attacks by the Azerbaijani side, including the city of Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh. At least three civilians were injured.
