The spread of the corona virus has reached a record level in Australia. According to today’s authorities, 501 new infections were recorded within a day. This is the highest number of new infections per day since the virus spread to Australia. The previous high was reached on March 28, with 459 new infections, according to official data collected by the AFP news agency.

The vast majority of new cases are concentrated in the state of Victoria. The state with its metropolis of Melbourne is largely sealed off from the rest of the country. A general mask requirement comes into force in Melbourne at night. Melbourne is the first Australian city to introduce a mask requirement.
