Despite vaccinations against the coronavirus, Australia is sticking to its two-week quarantine when entering the country. Border controls cannot yet be dismantled as it is unclear whether the virus can also be transmitted with vaccination, Australia’s chief medical officer Paul Kelly said today. The mandatory quarantine in hotels therefore remains „independent of the vaccination“.

Since the pandemic began a year ago, Australia has de facto cut itself off from the world through a strict entry policy. Everyone who enters the country has to undergo a two-week, self-paid hotel quarantine. The vaccination should start this month.
Less than a thousand dead

The announcement is a blow to the tourism industry, which has virtually stalled. Thanks to its strict rules, Australia has so far managed to keep the number of CoV cases comparatively low.

With a population of almost 25 million, the country registered just under 29,000 cases of infection and fewer than a thousand deaths related to the coronavirus. Australia is therefore one of the few countries in the world from which you can enter Austria without quarantine regulations.
