Israeli police officers shot an attacker in the West Bank today. The man had rushed to a checkpoint in his car and then stabbed a policeman with scissors, the Israeli police said. His colleagues then opened fire on the attacker. An explosive device was discovered at the scene.
The attacked officer was not seriously injured. The police did not disclose the identity of the attacker. She posted photos showing the perpetrator’s van with Palestinian license plates. Cars with these license plates may only drive in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank, which is occupied by Israel.
The incident occurred between the Jewish settlement of Maale Adumim and the suburb of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem. Recently, the launch of US President Donald Trump’s controversial Middle East plan at the end of January had increased tensions between Israel and the Palestinians.
