At least 24 people were killed in an attack on a village church in Burkina Faso. Around 18 other people were injured in the attack in the village of Pansi in the north of the country, said regional governor of the Sahel region, Salfo Kabore, today. An „armed terrorist group“ attacked the village near the Niger border on Sunday.
The attackers first separated the villagers from non-residents and then killed the villagers. The pastor of the Protestant community was among the dead. According to Kabore, several people were abducted. According to the governor, injured people were brought to nearby Sebba and Dori villages for medical care.
The West African state of Burkina Faso, like the neighboring countries of Mali and Niger, has been repeatedly shaken by acts of violence since 2015. Jihadists are on the rise in the three countries of the Sahel. Around 750 people have been killed in Burkina Faso since 2015, and around 600,000 people fled the violence, according to the UN.
