
At least 13 people have been killed in an attack outside a hospital in the southern province of Sabul. In addition, there were at least 93 injured, according to local officials.
Explosive loaded truck detonated
According to this report, Früh detonated an explosives-laden truck in a street between the state hospital and a building belonging to the Afghan intelligence agency NDS this morning in the provincial capital of Kalat. The radical Islamic Taliban claimed the attack for themselves. The goal was the building of the secret service.
Provincial Councilor Fausia Kakar said many of the victims were civilians, including children who were hospitalized. According to Atta Dschan Hakbajan Provincial Council, the hospital was badly damaged and only one wall had collapsed on the intelligence building. Hakbajan even spoke of at least 20 dead, including two policemen guarding the hospital.
Warning about violence after breaking off peace talks
Experts warned that violence in the country would increase after talks between the US and the Taliban over ways to peace in Afghanistan ended.
Social media images of the attack in Kalat showed massive damage to the street and inside the hospital. Local media reported that most of those injured were treated in private hospitals, but some had to be taken to neighboring Kandahar. Kandahar city is more than one and a half hours drive away.
Just yesterday, a suicide bomber and an armed attack on a government agency in the eastern city of Jalalabad killed at least seven people, according to the provincial governor. On Tuesday, at least 48 people were killed in two suicide bombings of the Taliban in the provincial capital of Charikar and in the capital Kabul.
