Apple apparently wants to produce fewer new iPhones

Apple deletes its production plans for three new iPhone models according to a media report. For the period from January to March 2019, the planned volume will be reduced by about ten percent, the „Nikkei Asian Review“ reported today. Affected are the models XS, XS Max and XR.

The US technology company had asked its manufacturing companies at the end of December for the reduction. Many analysts and customers consider the new iPhones overpriced. According to Nikkei, the production of old and new iPhone models in the first three months of 2019 should amount to 40 to 43 million pieces. Previously, 47 to 48 million had been calculated.

„Long-term health“

Apple did not comment on the report on Reuters request. The company, which had been spoiled by success, most recently missed its sales forecast for the first time since the introduction of the iPhone more than ten years ago due to weak business in China in the course of the commercial dispute.

In an interview yesterday broadcast by the US financial broadcaster CNBC, Apple CEO Tim Cook now tried to dispel major concerns. Markets reacted „quite emotionally“ in the short term, he responded to a question about recent stock market losses. However, Apple’s „long-term health“ and „product pipeline“ have never been better, according to Cook. Also with respect to the discussions between the USA and China in the trade dispute he was „very optimistic“.

Apple boss Cook increased salary vigorously

Apple CEO Tim Cook in turn increased his salary. He earned a good fifth more in the past financial year. The top manager got 15.7 million dollars (13.7 million euros) and thus cut 22 percent more money than last year, as Apple announced yesterday (local time). He increased his revenue for the second year in a row. The main reason was a $ 12 million bonus linked to achieving certain financial goals.
