A supporter of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, who has brought a suspected right-wing demonstrator to safety during violent clashes in London, has called for intervention in violent acts. George Floyd could still be alive if the other police officers at the scene stopped her colleague, Patrick Hutchinson told Channel 4.

A Saturday photo of Hutchinson with the injured man over his shoulder had caused a sensation on social media and was featured on the front pages of several British newspapers today. He was celebrated as a „hero“ and „merciful Samaritan“.

„Did what we had to do“

The personal trainer intervened with several friends when the alleged hooligan was surrounded and attacked by „Black Lives Matter“ demonstrators. „We did what we had to do, we saved someone from getting killed,“ Hutchinson told the BBC.

On Saturday there were several demonstrations related to the killing of Floyd in the United States in London and other British cities. Most of them were mostly peaceful. There were clashes between demonstrators and the police in Parliament Square. Hundreds of people there followed an appeal by hooligans and far-right groups to protect monuments from anti-racism activists. More than 100 people were arrested.
