The Russian secret service, who the Kremlin critic Alexej Navalny blames for a poison attack, are said to be involved in the case of the poisoned opposition activist Vladimir Kara-Mursa. The men are said to have followed Kara-Mursa before its breakdowns in 2015 and 2017, writes the investigative platform Bellingcat, citing travel data.
The journalist Kara-Mursa, who now lives abroad, was near death with kidney and lung failure. Many heavy metals had been found in his organism – where they came from remained unclear.
Investigated three more murders
The representatives of the domestic secret service FSB had previously been accused of having been involved in the murder of three opposition activists in 2014, 2015 and 2019 in addition to the attack on Navalny. The magazine “Der Spiegel” and the investigative network The Insider were also involved in the latest research.
In a high-profile revelation in December, the journalists accused the FSB representatives of being behind the attempted murder of Navalny. The opposition leader himself also suspects an FSB „killer squad“ under the orders of President Vladimir Putin behind the attack with the neurotoxin from the Novichok group in August. Putin and the FSB reject that.
