The US magazine „Forbes“ has Chancellor Angela Merkel for the eighth time in a row elected the world’s most powerful woman of the year. The public is asking the big question who and what follows if the CDU politician is no longer in office, writes the magazine.
Second place on the „Forbes“ list is followed by British Prime Minister Theresa May – just like last year – in front of the French head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, who lands in third place. In fourth place is Mary Barra, boss of the US car manufacturer General Motors, in fifth place the head of the US financial giant Fidelity, Abigail Johnson.
Amongst others, „Forbes“ considers assets, media coverage and influence of the respective women. In addition to Merkel, the finance director of Deutsche Post, Melanie Kreis, is represented from Germany (61st place). At the age of 28, the youngest woman on the list is US singer Taylor Swift (68). Ivanka Trump, daughter and adviser to US President Donald Trump, slipped from 19th to 24th place.
