Amazon has cracked the 100 million sold device brand with its voice assistant Alexa on board. In recent Christmas, especially the mini-speaker Echo Dot has been in high demand and was sold out for weeks, said device boss Dave Limp the technology blog „The Verge“.
This is the first time that Amazon has mentioned a number for selling Alexa devices – and there is still no information on how much of the assistant software is being used by customers.
Via Alexa you can control networked devices such as lamps in the household, query information from the network or maintain grocery lists. Amazon had established the device category of smart speakers with assistant software and now tries to bring Alexa in more and more technology from different manufacturers.
Google is driving a similar course with the rival software assistant. Apple’s assistant Siri, however, runs only on the Group’s own devices – but can also control various linked technology.
