Since the pandemic began, almost two million people worldwide have been infected with the pathogen that triggers Covid-19 lung disease. Of the total of 1,923,390 cases of infection, more than half were registered in Europe with around 973,000. According to official information, more than 582,000 people are infected with the virus in the United States.
At least 411,500 people worldwide are now cured. The AFP count refers to 193 countries and territories and is based on information from the authorities in individual countries and information from the World Health Organization (WHO). Experts assume that the number of unreported cases is very high, as there are limited test capacities in many countries.
