The leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist militia in the Islamic Maghreb (AQMI), the Algerian Abdelmalek Droukdal, was killed in Mali. French Defense Minister Florence Parly said on Twitter yesterday that French soldiers killed Droukdal near the Algerian border in northern Mali.

„Several of his close colleagues“ were also killed. According to news agency AFP, the AQMI chief, who commanded several jihadist groups in the Sahel region, was killed on Thursday in the northwest of the Malian city of Tessalit.
