After the crash of a Ukrainian passenger plane in Tehran, there could soon be new information about the cause of the crash. The flight recorders of the machine should be opened later in the day, the official Iranian news agency IRNA announced today. However, the head of the Iranian civil aviation authority, Ali Abedsadeh, dampened hopes of a quick clarification.

Abedsadeh said it could take a total of one to two years for the crash investigation to be completed. Yesterday, his authority itself submitted a first report, which spoke of a technical problem with the machine and an „accident“. According to security circles, Western intelligence agencies had initially assumed that the cause of the crash would have been technical.

Later, first in US government circles and then by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the suspicion was expressed that the Boeing 737-800 from Ukrainian International Airlines on its way to Kiev was accidentally shot down by the Iranian air defense with a missile. Abedsadeh said skeptically about videos published on the Internet, which should show how the plane is hit by a rocket. The authenticity of the recordings cannot be verified, he said.
