For air travelers the strike risk is banned until further notice. For the security staff at the German airports, employers and the union Verdi have agreed at night on a tariff compromise. That said a Verdi spokeswoman for the German Press Agency after several hours of negotiations. Details of the agreement should therefore be announced in the morning.
After a month’s break and several warning strikes, Verdi and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) met yesterday for the fifth round of negotiations. Verdi demanded significantly more money for the security staff. Thus, the hourly wage for the passenger control staff should increase from about 17 euros to 20 euros. National collective agreements should be replaced by a nationwide agreement.
Above all, the recent warning strike on 15 January at the largest German airport in Frankfurt and seven other airports had hit the air traffic hard. Hundreds of flights were canceled, an estimated 200 000 passengers could not make their journey. Previously there were warning strikes on 10 January in Cologne / Bonn, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart and on 7 January in Berlin.
