
After the de-escalation efforts in the wake of the incident on the Chinese-Indian border with several deaths, the two countries have once again blamed each other. The Indian government has now reiterated its accusation that China has attempted to build structures beyond the demarcation line in the Himalayan region. India will not allow unilateral changes to the controversial border.
China: „Deliberate Provocation“
China’s foreign ministry accused Indian border troops of “deliberately provoking” the incident. Indian soldiers crossed the border and attacked Chinese soldiers who were there for negotiations. Because of this, there were violent clashes, a spokesman tweeted. India has also been building roads, bridges and other facilities on the China-claimed side of the border since April.
According to Indian reports, the incident had resulted in a fight between soldiers from both countries on Monday. At least 20 Indians were killed. Chinese soldiers are also believed to have been killed. China did not disclose its own victims.
Indian media had reported at least 45 injuries or deaths on the Chinese side. In the past few days, both sides have tried to ease the situation. China and India had fought a brief border war in 1962.
