Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than three million people have died after being infected with the coronavirus. That came out today from data from the University of Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. The number of globally known coronavirus deaths rose from two to three million within around three months. So far, there have been more than 140 million confirmed infections with the virus worldwide, according to data from the university.
Experts assume an even higher number of unreported cases of infections and deaths. The university’s website is regularly updated with incoming data and shows a higher level than the official figures from the World Health Organization (WHO).
In some cases, however, the figures have been revised downwards at times. According to the WHO, there were 2.98 million confirmed deaths and nearly 139 million known infections.
