The eight-year-old boy died Tuesday night in Alamogordo, New Mexico, according to the US Border Guard. The cause of death is not yet known. The case is being investigated, the authorities in Guatemala are informed.
The child was taken to a hospital on Monday after signs of illness were noted. First, it was assumed that a cold and have dismissed the child again. On Monday evening, the boy had been hospitalized again because his condition had worsened. He died shortly after midnight.
It was not until the beginning of December that a seven-year-old girl died of dehydration after being arrested by US border authorities. The child had not drunk water for days while fleeing Guatemala. The US Department of Homeland Security described the girl’s death as „unbelievably tragic,“ but the government blamed the death of the child.
In recent weeks, a large number of refugees and other migrants from Central and South America have made their way to the US to seek refuge there. The US administration of President Donald Trump has increasingly sealed off the border against migrants and drastically tightened the course towards those seeking protection.
