A Russian long-range bomber crashed on Tuesday in the Arctic. In the process, two of the four crew members lost their lives after receiving military information.

The Tu-22M3 plane crashed on landing during a blizzard in the Murmansk region north of the Arctic Circle, the Ministry of Defense said.

There were no weapons aboard the bomber, according to the ministry statement distributed by Russian news agencies.

The two surviving crew members were therefore taken to a hospital. Military investigators began investigations into the cause of the accident.

 The Tu-22M3 is a twin-engine supersonic aircraft built in the 1980s. The Russian Air Force uses it, inter alia, in Syria.
