US President Donald Trump has urged the Venezuelan military to turn away from head of state Nicolás Maduro. The soldiers would have to decide whether to accept „the generous amnesty offer“ of self-proclaimed Transitional President Juan Guaido, or stay on Maduro’s side, Trump said in a speech to representatives of the Venezuelan community in Miami. Who chooses the second way, for which there is „no way out“. „They’ll lose everything,“ Trump warned.

Venezuela expects 300 tons of relief supplies from Russia, according to Maduro. The humanitarian aid delivery with medicines will arrive tomorrow, said the leftist nationalist yesterday on a televised appearance. His government „paid with dignity“ the delivery, the goods would „legally“ come into the country. He then added that the relief supplies came from Russia, China, Turkey, other countries and the United Nations.

Maduro: US aid deliveries only pretext

At the same time, Maduro called the planned US aid deliveries at Guido’s request again as a „show“ and „Bauernfängerei“. The head of state categorically refuses to let US aid into the country. He sees them as a pretext to prepare the ground for a US-led military intervention.

For weeks, there has been a bitter power struggle in Venezuela between Maduro and Guaido, who declared himself interim president at the end of January. The US recognized him as one of the first countries. There are now around 50 states, including Germany, France and many other European countries. So far, however, Maduro can rely on the backing of the army leadership.
