After two quarters of declining user numbers, the Snapchat photo app has stopped its downward trend for the time being. In the three months to the end of December used daily 186 million users the application – so the number remained unchanged from the previous quarter. Revenue rose more than a third year-on-year to $ 389.8 million (€ 341.8 million), as Snapchat’s parent company Snap announced yesterday after the US close.

In addition, the quarterly loss was reduced by 45 percent to 191.7 million dollars. The results clearly exceeded the expectations of Wall Street, the stock rose temporarily over 15 percent at times.

Snapchat is actually suffering from fierce competition from Facebook’s Instagram subsidiary, and many users have been distracted last year with an unpopular transformation. The new design was intended to simplify the app and make it even more attractive to older people. But it did not catch on with Snapchat users and needed to be post-corrected.
