In Venezuela, a senior military from President Nicolas Maduro broke away for the first time, backing the self-proclaimed Interim President Juan Guaido. In a video spread today on Twitter, Air Force General Francisco Yanez called on the military to deny Maduro his allegiance.
Yanez denounced the „dictatorial“ presidency of Maduro and announced that he recognized Guaido as transitional president of the country.
The High Command of the Air Force accused Yanez via Twitter of high treason. Recognized as a transitional president by the United States and several Latin American countries, Guaido has today called for mass protests against Maduro, which still has the support of the military.
