The French economy grew by 0.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared to the previous period, despite the impact of the yellow vests on the economy. This was reported by the French statistical office on the basis of a preliminary estimate.
As a result, the economy of France grew slightly stronger than expected, helped by higher exports. Economists calculated on average an increase of the gross domestic product (GDP) by 0.2 percent.
Retailers such as supermarket chains Casino and Carrefour and also transport companies such as Air France have recently suffered from the national and sometimes violent protests of the yellow vests against President Emmanuel Macron.
In the third quarter of 2018, economic progress of 0.3 percent was also measured. Across the year, the growth of the French economy was 1.5 percent, against 2.3 percent in 2017.
