The European Union will allocate about € 4 million for the development of civil society in Belarus in 2019. This is stated in the new tender of the European Commission, with the text of which RT has read
“The global goal of this call for proposals is to assist the civil society of Belarus in increasing the transparency of the public administration system, increasing citizen participation in political life, carrying out democratic reforms and protecting human rights, as well as ensuring inclusive social and economic development. If possible, this should be done through financial support from third parties, ”the document says.
The project is divided into two lots, the first of which will be aimed at the involvement of civil society, as well as the “under-represented” part of the population in the political life of the country.
In the framework of the second lot, the EU plans to “promote” respect for fundamental human rights, as well as to build the capacity of human rights defenders in the country. In addition, this lot also includes “support for pro-democratic forces in order to develop representative democracy with a wide participation of citizens in political life”, as well as increasing the transparency and accountability of the government.
It is planned that the execution of projects will be entrusted to non-governmental organizations and NGOs. In addition, it is stated that within the framework of the projects, events will be held that “meet the interests of the citizens of Belarus living outside the capital district”.
In 2017, it became known that Brussels intends to allocate up to € 136 million to promote reforms in Belarus until 2020.
