Long-time confidant of US President Donald Trump, Roger Stone, rejects all allegations of obstructing justice investigations. Stone did not plead guilty to a court in Washington today in what the special investigator Robert Mueller’s team accused him of. This was reported by several US media in unison.
Stone was arrested in Florida on Friday and released later under conditions. He is accused of making several false statements. He also allegedly tried to influence a witness. The background to this is Mueller’s investigation into whether or not there was agreement between the Trump camp and representatives of Russia in the 2016 presidential election campaign.
Even after election campaign still contact with Trump
Stone worked for Trump in 2015 – preparing for the 2016 presidential campaign. He continued to be in close contact with him afterward, as a kind of informal adviser.
The allegations against him are related to a hacker attack on e-mail accounts of the Democrats during the 2016 election campaign, for which US intelligence services blame Russia. The attack had stolen emails from Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, later published by the WikiLeaks disclosure platform.
Mueller: False information about hacker attack
Mueller’s team accuses Stone of misrepresenting to the US Congress what he knew about the hacker attack and with whom he communicated about it. In addition, he is said to have harassed another witness to make false statements in the matter.
In the statements of the Mueller bureau it is also said that in 2016, in consultation with representatives of Trump’s campaign team, unspecified, Stone addressed the issue of whether and how further incriminating evidence against Clinton could be published.
