The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has announced a new version of Bluetooth. This means that devices‘ locations can be accurately determined to the nearest centimeter.
Bluetooth 5.1 is the new version of wireless technology, which is available for developers from Monday. The SIG announced this in a press release.
Manufacturers can use Bluetooth 5.1 to add the „direction finding“ function to devices. This allows you to find the exact location of Bluetooth objects.
Previously, users could use Bluetooth to track the location of items, for example with the help of sounds. With Bluetooth 5.1 that technology becomes much more accurate.
The function is according to SIG director Mark Powell in 2022 in more than 400 million products. The previous version of Bluetooth was published in 2016. With this, speeds in data sharing were increased and the wireless range increased.
