A work of art attributed to British graffiti artist Banksy has been stolen from the Bataclan Music Club in Paris to commemorate the 2015 terrorist attack there. „Banksy’s work, a symbol of memory that belongs to everyone – residents, Parisians, citizens of the world – has been taken from us,“ said the concert hall on Saturday. The employees of the Bataclan were indignant.
Girl with sad face
In Bataclan, 90 people were killed in an Islamist terrorist attack in 2015. The work of art depicting a girl with a sad face had appeared in Paris together with other artworks last June and was credited to Banksy.
In the Bataclan the work was visible on one of the emergency exit doors. The picture was cut out of the door by the thieves. According to investigators, the station LCI reported that „a group of masked individuals with abrasive tools“ had „cut out the picture and taken it away in a truck“.
Banksy is the most prominent graffiti artist in the world, but his identity is known only to a handful of confidants. His works are displayed on walls and walls in many countries. Often the pictures have clear political messages.
