FBI warns: Shutdown is becoming a security risk

According to a professional association, the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is increasingly suffering from the budget freeze that has been going on for more than a month.

The agents worked without pay under increasingly difficult conditions, FBIA FBI President Tom O’Connor said at a press conference on Tuesday (local time). That also has an impact on national security.

Several informants of the FBI from the terrorist and drug scene could not have been kept, reports the US station CNN, citing the FBIAA report „Voices from the Field“. In it, FBI agents describe the consequences of the missing funds for their practical work on site.

The FBI distanced itself in a statement from the report, as CNN continues to write. The report was a product of the FBIAA and not by the investigation authority.

At the heart of the budget dispute is the demand by President Donald Trump for $ 5.7 billion (about 5 billion euros) to finance a wall on the border with Mexico. This is one of Trump’s most important campaign promises. The opposition Democrats, who have a majority in the House of Representatives, consider the wall an immoral and ineffective solution to illegal immigration.

Around 800,000 federal employees have been on forced leave for over a month because of the budget dispute or have to work without pay.

Republicans and Democrats in the US Senate want to start a new attempt on Thursday to end the partial stoppage of the US administration. However, hardly any of the two competing designs should get the necessary 60 out of 100 votes. The Republicans of President Donald Trump have a majority of 53 seats in the Senate.
