The drama „Green Book“ about the separation of blacks and whites in the US has won the Producers‘ Award for best film and thus best chances for an Oscar. Mahershala Ali plays in the biography of a black jazz pianist who traveled in the 60s with his white chauffeur (Viggo Mortensen) through the southern states.
Two weeks ago, the profound and yet funny tragicomedy had already won three Golden Globes for Best Comedy, for the screenplay and for supporting actor Ali.
Important indicator for Oscars
Together with the Golden Globes, the PGA prizes awarded on Saturday, which are voted on by several thousand film producers, are considered the most important yardstick for the Oscars. Since the first PGA awards in 1989, each winner in the Best Picture category has won or been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The winners of both prizes included „Shape of Water“ (2018), „Birdman“ (2015), „12 Years A Slave“ (2014) and „Argo“ (2013). In the race for the PGA top prize were also „Vice“, „A Star Is Born“ and the tragicomedy „The Favorite – Intrigue and lunacy“. Chances were also Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich, A Quiet Place and Roma.
