The belonging to the group Sony Music label RCA is said to have ended its collaboration with the singer R. Kelly media reports. The magazine „Billboard“ and the „New York Times“ reported, citing an unnamed bystander. R. Kelly did not show up on the RCA website yesterday.
Old abuse allegations have become loud again
Against the 52-year-olds in the past weeks old abuse allegations have become loud again, triggered by the documentary „Surviving R. Kelly“ at the TV station Lifetime. The musician has so far denied all allegations and declared that he was the victim of a smear campaign.
Speakers from RCA, Sony and R. Kelly were not available for comment. The Variety website reported that RCA did not want to step outside. Thus, open questions should be „responsibly“ clarified and legal consequences avoided.
Kelly had released at RCA since 2012 four albums, most recently the Christmas album „12 Nights of Christmas“ in the fall of 2016. According to information from Variety, he would have to publish there according to his contract actually two albums. Earlier, dozens of demonstrators at the Sony Music headquarters in New York had called for an end to the collaboration with Kelly. A petition signed 217,000 people.
