Alexandre Benalla, the controversial ex-security officer of France’s head of state Emmanuel Macron, has been arrested today for his diplomatic passport case, Paris prosecutors said.
The judiciary had intervened in December in the case and initiated, inter alia, on suspicion of breach of trust, an investigation. In addition, the police are also investigating allegations of falsification and illegal procurement of an administrative document.
Possible document forgery
Benalla had received the passports as part of his work for Macron’s official residence. After his expulsion from the Elysees Palace Benalla had traveled around 20 times with diplomatic passports, said the head of the closest staff Macron, Patrick Strzoda, yesterday before the Senate. He also mentioned a possible forgery of documents. Actually, Benalla should face the questions of the Senate on Monday to the affair.
At least since the summer, the name Benalla in France is a household name. He had been accused by the media of violently attacking demonstrators. He then had to leave the Elysees Palace.
