New record for New York: The US metropolis welcomed 65.2 million visitors last year, more than ever before. According to new figures from the tourism marketing agency NYC & Company, around 51.6 million US citizens and 13.5 million people from abroad came to the city in 2018.
The UK, with 1.24 million visitors, was the largest group, followed by Chinese (1.1 million), Canadians (one million), Brazilians (920,000) and Frenchmen (807,000). The tourism industry in New York employs around 391,000 people.
According to Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities annual ranking, New York ranks sixth among the cities with the most foreign visitors. First and foremost, Bangkok lands in front of London, Paris, Dubai and Singapore.
