Volkswagen and Ford have concluded initial official agreements for their future cooperation. As a first step, the joint development of medium-sized pick-ups – ie open-terrain SUV – planned, as VW CEO Herbert Diess and his Ford colleague Jim Hackett communicate today parallel to the auto show in Detroit. These vehicles are expected to come on the market worldwide in 2022.
Ford also claims to be developing and producing larger transporters for both companies for the same timeframe. These vehicles are intended for the European market. VW wants then for its part for both partners a „City Van“, so bring a city delivery van on the market.
Both corporations also agreed in a formal letter of intent to consider cooperation in autonomous vehicles, electric cars and transport services. They had already started exploring the possibilities, the two companies said. The partnership of both automakers has been planned for some time. It was the first time that they disclosed details.
