Sweden’s acting Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has not left a majority behind to form a red-green government. The left party Venstre wants to vote for a vote in parliament only for Löfven, if they can take influence on politics.
„We are a prerequisite for Stefan Löfven becoming prime minister and therefore we do not accept that we have no influence,“ Venstre party leader Jonas Sjöstedt said today. He advised the President of Parliament not to vote on Löfven as Prime Minister next. Even today, the chairman of the parliament wanted to announce who should stand in the parliament of the election on Wednesday.
To govern with the Greens, Löfven needs the toleration of Center Party, Liberals and Leftists. The problems of forming a government are related to the good performance of the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats.
„We are disappointed how far Löfven has gone“
The government drama in Sweden now lasts four months. None of the political blocs had a majority in the 9 September election. Since then, Löfven has been acting provisionally.
The parties have been negotiating cross-border since Christmas. At the weekend, the Center Party and the Liberals announced that they wanted to turn their backs on the conservative alliance and help the Social Democrat Löfven join the government. However, on condition that the Left Party be excluded from the negotiations.
Venstre had supported the red-green minority government of Löfven for the last four years. „We are disappointed with how far Löfven has gone to get the center and the liberals on board,“ said Sjöstedt. Venstre wanted the Social Democrat to become Prime Minister, but if nothing changed, his party would vote against Löfven.
