The fallen Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn received 7 million euros through a Nissan and Mitsubishi company set up in the Netherlands. This is reported by the French business newspaper Les Echos .
The two car manufacturers set up Nissan Mitsubishi BV in June 2017 to pay bonuses to employees and managers. The top of both companies would not receive bonuses via this Dutch branch.
Nevertheless, last year Ghosn was put on the payroll of the joint venture in February, which also made him eligible for bonuses. This happened according to the newspaper without the knowledge of other board members.
Ghosn has been in prison in Japan since mid-November on suspicion of tax fraud as Nissan’s boss. The arrest of the car boss has led to tensions within the alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi. Nissan and Mitsubishi dismissed Ghosn, while Renault first wants to see evidence of his crimes.
On Friday, the Japanese prosecutor officially announced that he would prosecute Ghosn for financial misconduct. He is charged with attributing personal investment losses to the car company and giving up a lower salary than he actually received.
