In Paris, 24 people have been arrested in connection with new „yellow vest“ protests. They carried a prohibited weapon or joined a group that could possibly commit acts of violence, the police said today.
Demonstrations are taking place in Paris and other French cities today – the ninth weekend in a row. France’s government fears riots and violence again. 80,000 security forces are deployed across the country, 5,000 in Paris alone.
Since mid-November, the movement has been demonstrating against President Emmanuel Macron’s policy of reform and against perceived as too low purchasing power. Again and again there were violent outbursts. Hundreds of yellow vests and security forces have been injured since the beginning. The government intends to address the anger of the movement with a „national debate“ from Tuesday. Citizens should be able to make suggestions for reform.
