US singer and producer R. Kelly is again facing serious allegations of sexual abuse. It required the broadcasting of a television documentary with allegations of alleged victims, so that the US justice system deals with Kelly. The pop musician („I Believe I Can Fly“) is biased relevant – but was acquitted ten years ago of similar allegations.
After broadcasting the documentary titled „Surviving R. Kelly,“ prosecutors in various US states intervened. They are now investigating allegations of pedophilia and sexual assault by the singer.
The district attorney’s office of Cook County, Illinois, called witnesses to report at a press conference on Tuesday. „Please contact us,“ said prosecutor Kim Foxx. „We can not identify without the cooperation of victims and witnesses.“
The six-hour documentary aired last week on Sender Lifetime. In it, several women accuse the singer of having sexual relations with girls under the age of 16 when he was of legal age.
Process already 2008
Other witnesses assure that the singer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, has surrounded himself with women in order to make them dependent on each other and that today they are without contact with their relatives. Foxx described the allegations as „very, very disturbing.“ She was in contact with the families of two young women who were under the influence of R. Kelly.
The first public accusations against R. Kelly came almost 20 years ago. In 2002, the singer and producer was accused of filming on which he was said to have seen sex with a 13-year-old. He was then charged in 14 points and was acquitted in 2008. Kelly and the then alleged victim, already grown up at the time of the trial, both denied being seen on the video.
Report on threats from the manager
Attorney Foxx from Illinois said that there are no investigations in her state. In the state of Georgia, local media reported that the Fulton District Procuratorate has launched an investigation into the singer.
A Georgia man involved in the documentary „Surviving R. Kelly“ accused the singer’s manager of threatening him. According to a police report, Timothy Savage said that Kelly’s manager Don Russell had written him news that it was better that the documentary not be aired – better for him and his family. Russell also told Savage lies and threatened to publish information that would destroy his reputation. These allegations are now also under consideration.
The Grammy winner himself did not comment publicly on the new allegations. His Chicago lawyer Steve Greenberg dismissed the allegations as false. „Ten and a half years after he was innocently spoken, and just to fill up time in reality TV, someone comes up with a new round of stories. No one has found any sex slaves or underage girls because there are none, „said Greenberg. He also sharply criticized the prosecutor. She has assessed allegations that she only knows from television, even before there is an investigation. „Who judges evidence based on reality TV?“
